Delivering REACT

REACT session leaders are at the heart of its provision, delivering increased quality of life and savings across the NHS and social care

REACT has been designed so that it is as simple and easy to deliver as possible. Minimal specialist equipment is required so it can take place a wide variety of settings. Key to it’s success is a friendly, enthusiastic and qualified instructor who will lead participants through the different sessions encouraging people to develop their skills and seek out other options in terms of physical activity.

The strength of REACT comes from its groups who often find the interaction with others a key motivation to keep coming back to sessions and encouraging each other to progress even further along the physical activity journey.

The REACT programme.

The REACT intervention was delivered in three key stages over a 12 month timeframe.

The first two months consisted of two activity sessions per week followed by social time. Then the programme moved onto the Build Up phase. Build Up had an inial month within which two activity sessions were maintained. however, now one of those sessions was followed by social time, the other by a social and educational session promoting the value and importance of activity. As Build Up progressed into months four, five and six, activity sessions were dropped to once a week which was followed by social and educational sessions.

The final phase, Taking Control, took place between months seven and twelve. Activity sessions dropped to once a month. These were followed by social sessions encouraging participants to seek additional independent activity.
